Garden
Guardian Angels is fortunate to have an
area of land that has been cultivated into an amazing school based
garden. The idea began when our school first became involved
with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Since then, and
due to the commitment and dedication of wonderful volunteers, the garden
has grown in size and productivity. From Prep to Year 5, all students
enjoy access to the garden and lessons guided by the Design Technologies
area of the Australian Curriculum. In Year 6, students access the
garden in line with kitchen lessons under the direction of their
teacher.
Keen and interested students often visit
during breaks to assist with the maintenance of the garden and were
recently involved in creating a display entry for the Gold Coast Show
2016. Proudly they were awarded first place!
GA Handwriting Competition:
This is an annual event held in Term 2.
First, second and third places are awarded for the top examples in
student handwriting in each year level. The competition is advertised
widely and all classes take part. Awards are given out during Friday
assembly.
Public Speaking:
The Mick Beard Public
Speaking Awards are held annually in Term 4. Finalists from Years 1-6
present their speeches and are judged by a panel headed up by past staff
member Mr Mick Beard, whom the award is named after. The competition
details are advertised widely and parents are welcome to attend. First,
second and third prizes are awarded on the day of the speeches, with
one child winning the overall trophy for the most impressive speech of
the week.
